The Space
Welcome to The Cabin Under the Hills. Nestled in nature, this cosy cabin offers a tranquil retreat for those looking to escape and unwind. Here’s what you can expect from the spaces inside and out:
Living Area
The open-plan living room provides a warm and inviting space with comfortable seating, perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring. Enjoy a wood-burning stove for those cooler evenings, giving the room a snug and rustic atmosphere.
Kitchen & Dining
The fully equipped kitchen comes with everything you need to prepare meals, including modern appliances, cookware, and utensils. The dining area comfortably seats 2 guests and offers lovely views of the surrounding landscape, making every meal an occasion.
Bedroom
The bedroom is designed for comfort and peaceful rest. It features a king size bed with soft linens, warm duvets, and ample storage space. Windows in the space frames beautiful views of the hills and woodland.
Bathroom
The bathroom is fitted with modern amenities, including a walk-in shower, towels, and essentials, so you can refresh yourself with ease after a day of outdoor adventures.
Outdoor Space
Step outside to enjoy the stunning natural surroundings. The private deck includes seating, perfect for morning coffee or evening stargazing. A fire pit is available for your use, providing a lovely spot to gather and enjoy the fresh air.
Electricity
Electricity is powered by solar panels so it’s limited by nature, but you can charge electronic devices every day in the provided sockets. Note though, as we are totally off-grid and powered by solar, our cabins are not built for power intensive appliances like hair dryers or straighteners which is why we ask you to leave them at home.
Car parking
The cabin has its own designated parking spot to leave your car. You cannot drive right up to the cabin, but we give you a trolley or wheelbarrow to get your things to the cabin with ease. Do bring a torch if you’re arriving at night.
What to bring
We recommend packing light. Our cabins have everything you'd need for a super comfortable stay from cooking essentials (and olive oil, salt, pepper, tea and coffee) you'd expect, to super soft towels and very nice smelling toiletries in the bathroom. So, bring some food to rustle up some meals, a good book, and a pair of walking shoes
Heating
Our cabin is well insulated and has an indoor log burner that will keep you toasty in colder months. We include enough kindling and firelighters for your first night. You can purchase more in the local supermarket.
Please note, there is no oven in the cabin, but an outdoor fire pit with a grill.

Guest access
Easily walk down to the award-winning Cappoquin House Gardens (the entrance fee is €6). Spread across five acres, this well-laid south-facing garden boasts a rich assortment of herbaceous plants, shrubs and trees.
Take the opportunity to wander the estate's walking paths, ideally suited for walking your dog or embarking on outdoor adventures with children all while enjoying the scenic views of the Blackwater Valley and the Knockmealdown Mountains.
Cappoquin Estate, home to the Keane family since 1735, is a mixed farm focused on dairy, arable and apple production. Don't be surprised to encounter our friendly Estate staff or a tractor on your strolls!

Other things to note
Cappoquin and its surroundings offer lots of activities catering to diverse interests and seasons. From salmon fishing or canoeing on the River Blackwater, hiking the Knockmealdown Mountains, visiting breathtaking Irish beaches, walking the beautiful Lismore Gardens, to horse riding - your stay promises to be brimming with outdoor adventure.
Food lovers will be delighted with the excellent supermarket in Cappoquin, the exquisite bakery in Lismore, and the array of gourmet restaurants in Dungarvan.
You can bring little ones along to our cabin if you're happy to get under the covers together but please note that our cabin features an eco-toilet, which is specifically designed to work for adults. So if you did want to bring a little one, they would need to be young enough to still be in nappies. Please note that the cabin is not in any way ‘baby-proofed’ - we have a low level wood burning stove that gets very hot.
